TOBACCO CESSATION

Many states sponsor a state-wide tobacco cessation program to assist residents that would like to quit smoking or using tobacco. Such programs have been created in response to health problems as well as the related state costs in caring for people, including state employees, with tobacco related diseases and conditions.

ALTERNATIVE NICOTINE PRODUCTS

NCSL reports on actions that have been taken in recent years to regulate the sale and use of electronic vaporizing products. At least 27 states have prohibited the sale of electronic cigarettes or vaping/alternative tobacco products to minors.

OVERVIEW

States regulate various aspects of tobacco sales and use.  From licensing retailers to funding smoking cessation programs, states are active in controlling the use of tobacco and working to reduce the known negative health consequences from tobacco use on smokers the general public alike.
