OVERVIEW

As many as 34 million Americans will join the ranks of the insured once the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) is fully implemented. The newly insured population with further strain the health workforce. States have implemented a variety of strategies to address workforce shortages. More

The shortage of primary care physicians is estimated to reach 21,000 by 2015. Fewer medical graduates are selecting primary care as a specialty and existing primary care physicians are retiring or leaving for opportunities in other fields. More
