Efforts are underway in at least half the states to assist individuals who have had their licenses suspended due to not paying fines or fees or for failing to appear in court. Automatic and/or Automated Criminal Record Clearing

Every state has a procedure that allows some people with criminal records to clear them by petitioning a judge or court. NCSL’s new database has information on states that have an automatic record clearing process in statute, including general eligibility requirements and the process by which the automatic record clearing process occurs.
