Role: Manager, Budget and Policy Analysis Division, Idaho Legislature

Years of legislative service: 14

Skill or talent he’s most proud of: “I’m an amateur barbecue and mixology enthusiast. I love cooking for big groups of people.”

Why did you choose to work at the legislature?

Because I’m a big civics dork. I wanted to work with legislators and stakeholders enacting public policy that is backed up with data and research.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?

“Ninety percent of life is just showing up,” from a college professor quoting—or paraphrasing—Woody Allen.

Who or what inspires you?

Legislators. They willingly run for office to enact public policy on behalf of their constituents and the people of Idaho.

What’s one thing you love about your state?

That we’re famous for our corn, rubber and potatoes.

What are you currently listening to?

Foo Fighters or anything Dave Grohl-adjacent. He is a national treasure.

This interview has been edited for length and clarity.
