April 24, 2022

Hometown: Ngarchelong, Republic of Palau

Role: Assistant clerk, Committee Affairs, House of Delegates, the lower chamber of the Palau National Congress

Years of legislative service: 29

One thing she loves about her territory: “The beautiful and bountiful ocean that surrounds us.”

Why did you choose to work at the legislature?

It was actually the first available job for me when I returned to Palau in 1992, and I have come to enjoy helping with the process of enacting laws and feel very loyal to the House of Delegates.

What skill or talent are you most proud of?

My respectful and friendly interactions with everyone at work, guests of the office and the other agencies that we interact with.

What’s the best advice you were ever given?

The Congress is a political arena and any staff can be terminated without cause, so once hired you have to earn your position.

Who or what inspires you?

My mom inspired me a lot, and I needed her to be proud of me.

What are you currently reading/listening to/watching?

Watching reruns of the “NCIS” TV series.

This interview has been edited for length and clarity.
