Louisiana Legislature’s Website Honored with NCSL Online Democracy Award

For Immediate Release

August 15, 2023

INDIANAPOLIS—The Louisiana Legislature’s website, https://lco.legis.la.gov, was awarded the 2023 Online Democracy Award for being an exceptional legislative website.

NCSL's Online Democracy Award is presented annually to a legislature, legislative chamber or caucus whose website makes democracy user-friendly in an outstanding way. The winning website is chosen by a committee of legislative staffers who evaluate each site’s design, content and technological integration.

The Louisiana Legislature was selected to receive this award for the intuitive functionality of its website, no buffering, providing the public with a useful app and a lot of legislature-adjacent sites.

Louisiana’s new app, “LA Lege,” was launched in April 2023 and features key information such as legislator profiles and committee assignments, live video feeds during committee and floor hearings and a visitor’s guide to the state capitol, among other useful information to make navigating the Louisiana State Capitol easier and more accessible.

The award selection committee said that the legislature’s “approach to content is a delight.”

The Online Democracy Award is sponsored by two of NCSL's legislative staff associations: the National Association of Legislative Information Technology and the Legislative Information and Communications Staff.

Previous winners of the NCSL Online Democracy Award include the Washington Legislature (2022 and 2010), Georgia General Assembly (2021), Minnesota Legislature (2006 and 2020), North Carolina Legislature (2019), Massachusetts Legislature (2013 and 2018), Alaska Legislature (2017), New York Senate (2016), Tennessee Legislature (2009 and 2015), Utah Legislature (2005 and 2014), Hawaii Legislature (2012), Florida Senate (2011), Texas Legislature (2008) and the New Jersey Legislature (2007),
