Statehouse Ambassadors Welcome New Legislative Staff
The NCSL Statehouse Ambassadors are legislative staff who serve as in-state field representatives for NCSL. The Statehouse Ambassador program is designed to energize and sustain legislative participation in NCSL and strengthen the organization’s role as an extension of state legislatures.
Following is a sample email message that Statehouse Ambassadors can adapt to their own circumstances and send to new staffers in their own state.

Dear [new staffer]:
Welcome to the [Legislature/General Assembly]. My name is [insert], and I am contacting you to introduce you toa great resource for legislative staff: the National Conference of State Legislatures, otherwise known as NCSL. As a legislative staffer, you are automatically a member of NCSL.
NCSL offers legislative staff a wealth of resources, services, and opportunities. NCSL provides research assistance on a wide variety of topics, sponsors several professional development seminars each year, and has a web site packed with valuable online resources. Here is a link to NCSL and You: The Legislative Staffer that explains all of NCSL’s programs and services for legislative staff.
Two additional links that you may find helpful are: Help & Member Services (which includes a Guide to NCSL’s website, FAQs, and contact information), http://www.ncsl.org/Default.aspx?TabID=305&tabs=1027,120,820#820 and Legislative Staff Services, http://www.ncsl.org/Default.aspx?TabID=305&tabs=1027,78,582#582.
In the coming days, I'll be contacting you to talk more about the benefits NCSL has to offer you and to answer any questions that you may have.
I expect that you will find your job as a legislative staffer exciting, dynamic, demanding, frustrating and rewarding -- sometimes simultaneously! By choosing legislative service you have the opportunity to help make history!
I look forward to visiting with you.
