There are 2,451 women serving in state legislatures in 2025, representing approximately one-third or 32.43% of the total number of state legislators in the 50 states and territories. This number stays right in line with numbers in 2024, and is a slight increase from 2020-2022 when the average women representation stayed around 30%. Three states, Colorado, New Mexico and Nevada are at or above the 50% mark of women state legislators, marking the highest representation of women across the nation.
