We’ve Moved! Scope of Practice Website Has New Home at NCSL.org

Policy resource center tracks legislation on scope of practice for health professionals.

The Scope of Practice Policy Resource Center website has a new home at ncsl.org and a new name: Scope of Practice Policy.

NCSL launched the original website in 2017 to track changes in state laws addressing scope of practice requirements for health professionals, including introduced, vetoed and enacted legislation.

The new site features 23 interactive maps detailing policy areas such as practice and prescriptive authority and supervision requirements. Users can more easily find objective, nonpartisan policy information on scope of practice laws in the 50 states, Washington, D.C., and the territories, along with state profiles linking to statute citations for each of the health professions and policy areas captured in the chart below.

NCSL continues to track state legislation in the Scope of Practice Legislation Database, detailing nearly 2,000 bills since its inception in 2015, including more than 220 bills in 2024.
