Staff Snapshots | Louis Lindstrom

May 11, 2023
  • Hometown: Tacoma, Wash.
  • Role: Deputy director of civic education for the Washington Senate
  • Years of legislative service: Three and a half

Skill or talent he’s proudest of: “My tumbling abilities. It is a skill that I worked really hard on throughout my years as a competitive cheerleader, and it never ceases to impress.”

Why did you choose to work at the legislature?

I began as an intern for the Senate in 2019. At the time, I did not have a clear idea of what I wanted to do once I graduated later that year. During the internship, however, I quickly fell in love with the legislative environment, and I really enjoyed the work and the people. I knew that once I had graduated, I was going to try my hardest to come back. Then, in June, I received a call from the director of the program at the time asking me if I wanted to be her assistant and I quickly jumped at the chance.

What’s the best advice you were ever given?

I have received a lot of great advice over the years, but if I had to choose, it would probably be that things always work out in the end as long as you continue to work hard. This advice alone got me through college.

Who or what inspires you?

My family inspires me. To be raised by my parents, who always did their best for my brother and me, was really inspiring because I saw how hard they worked even when they didn’t have the energy to give. They embodied what it meant to work hard for yourself but also for your family, which definitely had a lasting impact on me and my brother.

What’s one thing you love about your state?

I love many things about Washington, but my favorite would have to be the scenery. If I ever want to see mountains, the ocean, forests, lakes, rivers or even a rainforest, then I can do so while never having to leave the state. It truly feels like I have everything I need right here.

What are you currently reading/listening to/watching?

My current ear worm would have to be “Slow Song,” by The Knocks. Something about the song is very satisfying. It is upbeat yet calming, and it’s catchy but not so catchy that you will play it over and over until you get tired of it. I also love Ariana Grande, but to anyone who knows me, this is not a shock. As for what I am watching, I have to say Mindy Kaling’s show “The Sex Lives of College Girls” is one of the best and funniest shows I have watched in a very long time, and I recommend it to everyone. Additionally, my boyfriend would be upset if I didn’t mention the anime series “Attack on Titan.” It really is an amazing watch.
