Certified Nurse Midwife Practice and Prescriptive Authority

Full independent practice authority but transition to independent prescribing for Schedule II authority.

A CNM may prescribe controlled substances Schedule III-V if they are within their scope of practice. An CNM must have a regulated relationship with a physician for prescribing Schedule II controlled substances for 2,000 hours or two years. Nurse Practitioner Practice and Prescriptive Authority

Nurse Practitioner as a Primary Care Provider

NPs are recognized in state policy as primary care providers. An NP who wishes to obtain a license to practice as an advanced practice registered nurse must request that the State Board of Nursing issue the license to specify the role of the applicant and the population of focus of the applicant within that specific role. Pharmacists

Prescription of Hormonal Contraceptives

A pharmacist may dispense a self-administered hormonal contraceptive regardless of whether the patient has obtained a prescription from a practitioner. The pharmacist must provide the risk assessment questionnaire  to a patient who requests a self-administered hormonal contraceptive before dispensing the self-administered hormonal contraceptive to the patient. Number of PAs Supervised

Statute limits the number of PAs a physician may supervise.

A physician shall not simultaneously: (a) Supervise more than three PAs; (b) Collaborate with more than three advanced practice registered nurses; or (c) Supervise or collaborate with a combination of more than three PAs and advanced practice registered nurses. Nev. Admin. Code §630.495

Adaptable Proximity Requirements

Statute does not allow adaptable proximity.

Unless the PA is performing medical services, the supervising physician must be available at all times that his or her PA is performing medical services to consult with his or her assistant. Those consultations may be indirect, including, without limitation, by telephone. Nev. Admin. Code §630.370(2)-(7)
