Idaho credentials three types of addiction counselors. A Certified Alcohol/Drug Counselor (CADC) requires a high school diploma, 270 hours of relevant education and 6,000 hours of experience. A higher-level degree can substitute the number of hours (i.e. a person with a bachelor's degree needs 4,000 hours). An Advanced Certified Alcohol/Drug Counselor (ACADC) requires a master's degree, 180 hours of relevant education and 2,000 hours of experience. A Master Addiction Counselor (MAC) requires a master's degree and meet the requirements of the National Counselor Certification. Idaho Admin. In Idaho, licensed professional counselors (LPCs) use the application of mental health, psychological, and human development principles to facilitate human development and adjustment throughout the life span. Counselors also assess and treat mental, emotional or behavioral disorders and associated distresses which interfere with mental health. LPCs also conduct assessments for the purpose of establishing treatment goals and objectives, and plan, implement and evaluate treatment plans using counseling treatment interventions. Diagnostic ability is not outlined in statue. Idaho Code §54-3401(10)
