Education Required for Addiction Counselor Credentialing

Idaho credentials three types of addiction counselors. A Certified Alcohol/Drug Counselor (CADC) requires a high school diploma, 270 hours of relevant education and 6,000 hours of experience. A higher-level degree can substitute the number of hours (i.e. a person with a bachelor's degree needs 4,000 hours). An Advanced Certified Alcohol/Drug Counselor (ACADC) requires a master's degree, 180 hours of relevant education and 2,000 hours of experience. A Master Addiction Counselor (MAC) requires a master's degree and meet the requirements of the National Counselor Certification. Idaho Admin. Licensed Professional Counselor Ability to Diagnose

In Idaho, licensed professional counselors (LPCs) use the application of mental health, psychological, and human development principles to facilitate human development and adjustment throughout the life span. Counselors also assess and treat mental, emotional or behavioral disorders and associated distresses which interfere with mental health. LPCs also conduct assessments for the purpose of establishing treatment goals and objectives, and plan, implement and evaluate treatment plans using counseling treatment interventions. Peer Support Specialist Certification or Credentialing Authority

The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare has established training and credentialing standards for peer support specialists and family support partners. The certification process for peer support specialists and family support partners is administered by a third-party, behavioral healthcare provider. The standards and requirements for the certification of peer recovery coaches are developed and administered by a third-party, non-profit certification provider. Idaho Admin. Code §16.07.19.000

Advanced Practice Registered Nurses
Certified Nurse Midwife Practice and Prescriptive Authority

Full independent practice and prescriptive authority.

An NM is a licensed independent practitioner who shall practice consistent with the definition of advanced practice registered nursing, recognized national standards, and the standards set forth by the Board of Nursing rules. Idaho Admin. Code §24.34.01

Optometrists may perform procedures related to foreign body removal and the examination, evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of the human eye, including lumps and bumps. Idaho Code §54-1501

Dental Hygienists with Direct Access

Dental hygienists can practice outside a private setting and provide services in hospitals, long-term care facilities, public health facilities, health or migrant clinics or other board-approved settings if the supervising dentist authorizes the services and the dental hygienist meets additional requirements. Dental Therapists

Dental therapists provide preventative treatment and preventative services in schools or long-term care facilities in incorporated cities that are within or bordering tribal reservations. Dental therapists practice under the general supervision of a dentist and may dispense and administer medications as authorized by the supervising dentist. Idaho Code §54-902A

Physician Assistant Practice and Prescriptive Authority

Collaboration allowed with a physician for practice and prescriptive authority.

A PA shall collaborate with, consult with, or refer to the appropriate member of the facility health care team as indicated by: the condition of the patient; the education, experience and competence of the physician assistant; and the community standard of care. The degree and nature of collaboration shall be determined by the facility or practice in which the PA works and shall be set forth in facility bylaws or procedures for facilities that have credentialing and privileging systems or in a written collaborative practice agreement for all other facilities and practices.
