With the general election just a month away, some voter registration deadlines are already here. Monday, Oct. 7, is the 30-day deadline in some states; others occur this week. Miss the deadline in some states, and you can’t vote in this election. Still others have deadlines ahead of Election Day, then close registration, then reopen again on Nov. 5. One state doesn’t even require registration: North Dakota abolished the practice in 1951, so residents just show a valid ID proving 30 days of residency before voting on Election Day. Most states offer online registration in addition to mailing or delivering your form, and those deadlines may be closer to election. Today’s Map Monday shows the variety of deadlines states set for voter registration. Register or check your status here.
