In states that get plenty of rainfall, like Hawaii, it takes a lot of rain to break a 24-hour record. A whopping 49.7 inches of rain to be exact, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. That’s more than 4 feet. Texas is close behind with a 24-hour record of 42 inches, set when a tropical storm parked along the coast. On the other end of the scale, arid Western states set records with much lower numbers. Colorado’s record is 11.9 inches in a 24-hour period, and in Utah it was just over 5 inches. Source: NOAA
