Battelle's Alliance for Uniform Hazmat Transportation Procedures Report
Motor carriers of hazardous materials regulated by the Alliance uniform base state system operate more safely than those carriers operating under other regulatory schemes, according to a new study. Carriers operating in the seven states that are part of the Alliance for Uniform Hazmat Transportation Procedures (the Alliance) were found to have fewer crashes and fewer out-of-service violations than their counterparts outside of the uniform program. The seven Alliance states include Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Nevada and West Virginia.
Battelle Memorial Institute, located in Columbus, Ohio, conducted the study at the direction of the National Conference of State Legislatures, with funding from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.
