Autonomous Vehicles State Bill Tracking Database

ncsl database

The National Conference of State Legislatures works to bring you up to date, real-time information about autonomous vehicle bills that have been introduced in the 50 states and the District of Columbia.

Autonomous vehicles seem poised to transform and disrupt many of the basic, longstanding fundamentals of the American transportation system. As the technology for autonomous vehicles continues to develop, state governments are beginning to debate and address the potential benefits and impacts of these vehicles.

Database Notes

You can search legislation beginning with 2017 by state, topic, keyword, year, status or primary sponsor. See legislation before 2017 here. New measures are added quarterly by NCSL staff.

Bills may appear twice in carryover states.  In these states, please check the last date of action to ensure the status of the bill reflects the appropriate year.
