military jets flying over the mountains.Join the NCSL Task Force on Military and Veterans Affairs and its partners--the U.S. Department of Defense and Veterans Campaign--for learning opportunities and networking as part of NCSL's Legislative Summit in Los Angeles. The Legislative Summit will be held at the Los Angeles Convention Center.

The Task Force meeting will take place on Thursday, Aug. 2, 2018, as a post-conference to Legislative Summit. The agenda will provide opportunities for members and other interested legislators, staff and private sector participants to interface with federal and state officials, as well as members of the military community, to discuss sound policy solutions to assist servicemembers, veterans and their families.

Do I need to register?

Yes. Please click the link below to register for the task force meeting. A separate registration is required to attend the full Legislative Summit.

Is there a registration fee?

There is no fee to attend the task force meeting alone. There is a fee to attend sessions earlier in the week, as these are part of NCSL’s Legislative Summit. The early bird registration rate may still be available - please contact us for assistance.

Veterans Campaign is hosting a Veterans State Leaders Summit on Friday, Aug. 3, 2018, in Los Angeles. Task Force members are encouraged (but not required) to attend. Please contact Norm Bonnyman (nbonnyman@veteranscampaign.org) for more information. 

Veterans Campaign is a non-partisan civic leadership training organization for veterans. Its mission is to encourage, mentor and prepare veterans to run for office at the local, state and federal levels and to serve as a resource to veterans serving in elected office. With over 1,000 legislators who are currently veterans or National Guard members, we encourage you to be a part of the conversation with this unique group.

Registration Information

Please note that you will need to either log in to NCSL.org or create a login name to complete the reservation. This will allow NCSL to properly track your registration. 

Registration Deadline: The deadline for registration for this event is Wednesday, July 11, 2018.

Confirmations will be sent by email. 

Cancellations must be made in writing and emailed to jennifer.schultz@ncsl.org. Fees cannot be refunded for registrations canceled after the conference begins.

Hotel InformationEach attendee is responsible for making his or her hotel and travel arrangements.

NCSL requires Legislative Summit attendees to register for the conference before making a hotel reservation. Please note that you will need to either log in to NCSL.org or create a login name to complete the registration.

2. To make your hotel reservation, click the housing link in your Legislative Summit registration confirmation email, enter your registration confirmation number into the housing website, and click “Continue” to complete your reservation.

3. If you are not attending the full Legislative Summit, but you are attending the Task Force on Military and Veterans Affairs and need accommodations, please contact Gretchenn DuBois.

Travel stipends of $500 will be available for members of NCSL's Task Force on Military and Veterans Affairs. Reimbursement forms for members will be available on-site at the close of the meeting

Airport and Ground Transportation Information

Los Angeles is served by Los Angeles World Airport. Most major airlines serve the airport. Several modes of ground transportation operate at LAX to facilitate the movement of passengers and visitors to and from the airport.
