Family leave bills were introduced in 18 states and the District of Columbia during the 2012 legislative session. Laws were enacted in Connecticut and Utah.
 
Connecticut passed a law that grants the right to family and medical leave to school paraprofessionals in an educational setting if they have worked at least 950 hours of service in the previous 12-month period. (SB 150)
 
Utah enacted a law that prohibits a local government from enacting or enforcing an ordinance that requires a private employer to offer employee benefits, including health insurance, life insurance, sick leave or family medical leave. (SB 99)
