2011 Equal Pay Legislation

Equal pay or comparative worth legislation was introduced in 23 states during the 2011 legislative session.  Laws were enacted in two states.  Illinois passed two bills, one of which was vetoed.  The vetoed bill would have amended the state’s Human Rights Act.  The other bill, which was signed into law, amended the state’s Equal Pay Law by providing for a civil penalty and payment of wages for violations or for interference with reporting violations. New Jersey repealed obsolete provisions of law regarding property ownership by married women.
