According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), suicide was the 10th leading cause of death in the United States in 2018, accounting for over 48,000 deaths. Suicide deaths have increased in nearly every state between 1999 and 2016 and have increased by more than 30% in half of all states.
