In the first quarter of each year, NCSL releases its annual "State Tax Actions" report. The latest report (forthcoming) shows net revenue changes were minimal and the largest net tax change was a net increase in corporate income tax of nearly $4.5 billion. All tax categories except alcohol saw net tax increases.
To illustrate what tax actions states are taking, NCSL put together a database detailing the states’ tax changes. The database includes all actions enacted from 2015 through 2020.
This search tool allows you to view state tax actions and other revenue measures in one of three output formats with distinct groupings. Please start out by selecting which year you would prefer. For year and tax type categories, choose one or as many different categories as you would like. For your selection of state(s), choose either a quick pick or a single group of states. To choose all of the tax type categories or all of the states, please click on the "Select All" option. All selections will freeze in the corresponding year, therefore if you would like to analyze multiple years you can maintain your selections. To change your search options, please deselect your options to clear the search.
