Fiscal Year 2012 Budget Status
July 25, 2011 - as of 3:15 p.m. Mountain Standard Time
Forty-six states and Puerto Rico begin fiscal year (FY) 2012 on July 1, 2011.[1] In developing their FY 2012 budgets, states face a cumulative budget shortfall of $86 billion.[2] Resolving these massive gaps can complicate, and often lengthen, state budget deliberations.
To date, 50 states and Puerto Rico have enacted budgets for FY 2012. So far this year, five states have needed to extend their sessions or meet in special sessions to deliberate further on the budget.
The table below details the current status of FY 2012 budgets in the states.
