Q and A: Holly Petraeus | Consumer Financial Protection Bureau

A military spouse of 37 years and a former Department of the Army civilian employee, Holly Petraeus understands the challenges facing military families. She currently serves as an assistant director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), heading up the Office of Servicemember Affairs. Her office partners with the Pentagon to provide financial education and consumer protection to military families. Prior to joining the CFPB, Mrs. Petraeus directed the BBB Military Line, a program of the Council of Better Business Bureaus that provides consumer education and advocacy for servicemembers and their families. Petraeus is a summa cum laude graduate of Dickinson College in Carlisle, Penn., and a member of Phi Beta Kappa. She was granted an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree from the University of San Francisco in May 2012 and an honorary Doctor of Public Service degree from Methodist University in Fayetteville, N.C., in May 2011. She is a recipient of the Department of Defense Medal for Distinguished Public Service, the Department of the Army Decoration for Distinguished Civilian Service and the Oklahoma Medal of Freedom. She spoke to state lawmakers at NCSL’s 2013 Legislative Summit in Atlanta, then sat down with NCSL to discuss what can be done to help military members and their families avoid financial hardships.
