The Spring 2014 meeting of the State and Tribal Governments Working Group (STGWG) took place in Santa Fe June 2-5, 2014.STGWG met in conjunction with the National Conference of State Legislatures’ (NCSL) Nuclear Legislative Working Group (NLWG), the National Governors Association’s (NGA) Federal Facilities Task Force (FFTF), and the Department of Energy's Office of Environmental Management (DOE-EM). The meetings focused on the ongoing impact of the nuclear weapons complex facilities and the cleanup of nuclear waste, the waste issues that affect the environment, and the implications of cleanup activities on communities near DOE sites.
NCSL provided staff support to STGWG in its dialogue on environmental cleanup of the nuclear weapons complex and related issues with the DOE and intergovernmental partners. The meetings also included an exclusive tour of the Puye Cliff Dwellings of the Santa Clara Pueblo and an all-day excursion to the historic Los Alamos National Laboratory.
