Post-Election Audits with Pam Smith

NCSL Legislative Summit: Aug. 13, 2013

Pam Smith, Verified Voting Foundation

Pamela Smith is president of the nonprofit, nonpartisan group, Verified Voting Foundation. She works to acheive reliable, publicly verifiable elections by securing voting systems against electronic failures and fraud.

One way to do this is to use a post-election audit. This kind of audit looks at the results from a limited number of precincts or polling machines and compares them to a hand count.

In this interview, Smith describes how these work, what they cost and limitations that states must consider.
