Postsecondary Bill Tracking Database

The National Conference of State Legislatures works to bring you up to date, real-time information about postsecondary bills that have been introduced in the 50 states and the District of Columbia.

You can search legislation for each year from 2019 by state, topic, keyword, year, status or primary sponsor. Postsecondary topics include: admissions, enrollment, appropriations, athletics, campus safety, college preparation, corrections and prison education, credentials, credit for prior learning, dual enrollment, financial aid, affordability, free speech, rural education, student loans, student supports, tuition and fees, undocumented students, veterans, vocational education and workforce development.

Bill information for the current year is updated each weekday morning. New measures are added as they are introduced or identified by NCSL staff.

Bills may appear twice in carryover states. In these states, please check the last date of action to ensure the status of the bill reflects the appropriate year.

For legislation related to the Coronavirus outbreak, visit the COVID-19: Education Bill Tracking Database which includes both K-12 and higher education legislation. For a complete list of Education databases and bill tracking resources, visit this page.
