States Call on Congress to Complete FY 2011 Appropriations
The National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) is urging Congress to complete final action on FY 2011 appropriations as quickly as possible. In a letter to congressional leaders, NCSL’s leadership emphasized that states need to know what federal funds they can expect for the current fiscal year, as states continue to address fiscal and budget challenges.
NCSL anticipates that future reductions to state-federal programs are inevitable. These reductions, however, must be accompanied by relief from unfunded legislative or regulatory mandates and from maintenance of effort requirements. States also must be given greater program flexibility that will allow for more efficient and effective administration of these programs.
