Washington, D.C.—Tim Storey, chief executive officer of the National Conference of State Legislatures, released the following statement following passage of the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act that makes a huge investment in the nation’s core infrastructure:
“As the owners and operators of much of the nation’s interconnected surface transportation systems, states know the importance of funding certainty for our country’s infrastructure, and state legislators are grateful for the partnership with the federal government and the large investment that the bipartisan infrastructure package represents. The National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) congratulates President Joe Biden, Congressional leaders from both parties, and all members of Congress for passing the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act of 2021.
“The bill includes a number of NCSL’s infrastructure priorities—from 90% of highway funding being provided directly to states via core formula programs, to the significant increases in funding for clean and safe drinking water through state revolving funds, and the large investments in the nation’s electric grid, cybersecurity and broadband. NCSL is eager to work on the successful implementation of the law that addresses the nation’s extensive infrastructure needs. NCSL is tremendously grateful to the president and the congressional leaders who worked tirelessly, and across the aisle, to get this done. Now, let’s get to work on rebuilding America.”
