NCSL Statement on the Passing of Former President Jimmy Carter

December 29, 2024

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Tim Storey, chief executive officer of the National Conference of State Legislatures, released the following statement in response to the passing of former President Jimmy Carter today:

“Jimmy Carter didn’t just leave his farm in Plains to serve as a state legislator, or as a governor, or as a president. He left it time and time again over a century of service to our nation and global community. NCSL will remember President Carter as the model of a servant leader and humanitarian.

“We were grateful to have hosted President Carter at our 2013 NCSL Legislative Summit in Atlanta, where he spoke about his ongoing work on diplomacy and advancing democracy in his post-presidential life.

“Our thoughts are with President Carter’s family as he joins Rosalynn in final rest.”
