State Lawmakers to Walk for Wellness at NCSL Summit
Minneapolis—About 150 state legislators and staff will promote fitness and healthy living by participating in a 5K fun run/walk in Minneapolis as part of the National Conference of State Legislatures’ (NCSL) Legislative Summit, Aug. 19-22.
The Walk for Wellness begins at 6:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, at Loring Park, the largest in central Minneapolis, near the 14th Street entrance at Willow.
This is the ninth annual NCSL Walk for Wellness. The event was started by a coalition of legislative caucuses to offer an opportunity for exercise during a long week of meetings. It is designed to raise awareness of the adverse effects of heart disease, diabetes and obesity.
Since 1975, NCSL has served as the bipartisan organization serving the legislators and staffs of the states, commonwealths and territories. It provides research, technical assistance and opportunities for policymakers to exchange ideas on the most pressing state issues and is an effective and respected advocate for the interests of the states in the American federal system.
