In the first seven months of 2024, wind and solar have produced more energy than coal for the first time in U.S. history. The renewable energy sources provided 393TWh of energy compared to 388TWh provided from coal.

BLM Oil Sale Under Texas Reservoir Raises $61 Million

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has sold four oil and gas leases in Texas for $61 million. BLM has estimated that the wells will be able to produce 628,000 barrels of oil and 2,504,000 thousand cubic feet of gas.

Alliant Energy has asked Wisconsin state regulators to approve a first of its kind long duration storage project that converts gaseous carbon dioxide into a compressed liquid in an ‘energy dome.’ The battery would provide 10 hours of electricity for 18,000 homes on a single charge.

A former paper mill in Maine could become the largest long-term energy storage facility after being awarded a $150 million grant from the Department of Energy. The battery would provide 85MW of energy storage and could disperse energy for up to 100 hours.

This Commuter Rail Agency Just Went Electric

A commuter rail line that links San Francisco and Silicon Valley has started replacing its diesel trains with electric trains. The move is expected to immediately increase the speed of service from seven stops in 1 hour and 5 minutes to 11 stops in 59 minutes.

The Energy Information Agency has reported that 20.2GW of energy have come online in the first half of 2024. The agency has also reported that it expects another 42.6GW will be added in the second half of the year.

Indiana Utilities Seek New Energy Capacity and Bring 200 MW Solar Project Online

Utilities in Indiana are seeking request for proposals for renewable and thermal energy projects to be operational by the year 2028, while also commencing operations of a 200MW solar energy project along with 45MW of solar energy storage.
