Nuclear Energy Update

The latest from industry experts on the situation in Japan and how the disaster in the Pacific will affect the future of nuclear energy in the United States. This session will also examined the potential impact of radiation on the west coast and the possibility of a similar disaster occurring in the United States.

Environmental Impacts of Agriculture

This session will explored the ever increasing interplay between environmental policy and agricultural activity. We examined how regulation and environmental stewardship play integral roles in agriculture and the growing interest in the environmental impacts associated with farming in the 21st century.

Siting/Permitting Natural Resources Planning (mapping, GIS)

Facility siting and permitting are extremely complex, often difficult, and nearly always very time-consuming. This session examined obstacles to and resources available for siting new projects such as renewable energy, transmission, and other infrastructure projects. The discussion looked at the array of issues a project must address in order to come to completion including environmental policies and regulations and the coordination of multiple layers of authority.

Issue Forum: Fracking

Increased usage of hydraulic fracturing, or Fracking, in recent years has focused renewed scrutiny on the process in which a fluid is injected at high pressure into oil or methane gas deposits to fracture the rock above and release the liquid or gas below. This Issue Forum will examine the environmental impacts of this technique and its effect on domestic energy production.
