The LRL Professional Development Seminar is an opportunity to bring together staff who are critical to the legislative process and provide training and networking for legislative employees who perform research and other library services, such as cataloging, archival work, acquisitions, etc. for state legislatures.
The conference will be based in downtown Portland, Maine, and we will spend a full day in the historic Maine State House in Augusta.
Programming will include overviews of the Maine LLRL's digitization projects, reference materials, and outreach programs, self-care for library staff, a presentation by Marshall Tinkle, attorney and author of the book “The Maine State Constitution,” tours of the Maine State House and Capitol Park a presentation by former Maine judge and Revisor of Statutes, John David Kennedy, on the interplay of statutes, agency rules, and legislative history in court decisions, a session on conflict resolution and having “tough conversations” at work and much more.

Host state discount (Maine LLRL): $315
Host state daily (Maine LLRL): $275

Requires a credit card for everyone except legislators and legislative staff. Confirmations will be sent by email. Deadline to register online is Friday, Sept. 20.

Cancellations received in the NCSL Denver office by Friday, Sept. 20 will be refunded minus a $50 processing fee. Cancellations must be made in writing and faxed to 303-364-7811. Fees cannot be refunded for registrations cancelled after the conference begins.
