Approval of Minutes

Upon a motion by Denise Weeks, seconded by Ann Cornwell, the minutes of the last meeting held September 19, 2009, during the Professional Development Seminar, in Seattle, WA, were approved.

Old Business

The chair reported on the Joint Canadian-American Clerks Conference that was held in Ontario, Canada, October 15-19, 2009, and shared the conference agenda and photos from the conference. She noted that one of the highlights had been the opportunity to see the Ontario Legislature in session and to observe Question Period. She reminded the committee that the American Society of Legislative Clerks and Secretaries will host the Joint Canadian-American Clerks Conference in 2011 in Montgomery, AL, but the date has not been set. The chair stated that the committee would need to establish a theme for the conference and work on topics for discussion. Debbie Deller suggested perhaps Question Period in Parliament as a topic.

Chair Spaw announced that, as decided in Seattle, she had appointed Denise Weeks, chair, JoAnn Hedrick, and Brad Hendrickson as the subcommittee that will work with a subcommittee from the International Communications Committee to develop a concurrent session for the annual Professional Development Seminar in Milwaukee. The session would involve the participation of our international guests. There was discussion and agreement regarding the participation of representatives from several Indian Tribes in the concurrent session.

New Business

No new business came before the committee.

Upon a motion by JoAnn Hedrick, seconded by Dowe Littleton, the meeting was adjourned.

Respectfully submitted,
Denise Weeks (NC), Acting Recorder
