“I find myself to be easily and often inspired. I can be inspired by conversations with co-workers or family, or by a book I’m reading or movie I just watched. I am most inspired by people who hone their craft.”

Why did you choose to work at the legislature?

I had worked in local government previously, as a court clerk within a justice court, and then in the economic and community department for a city. So, I knew I enjoyed working for local government, and the legislative branch was something I had never dipped my toes into—or had never branched into, if you’re wanting something punny—and thought would be fun!

What skill or talent are you most proud of?

I have been trying to learn new skills this last year, and one of my favorite ones has been chess. It’s been a fun game to learn. It’s a game where no matter whether you win or lose, you learn something and that in and of itself is a win (or so my chess instructor says).

What’s the best advice you were ever given?

Be yourself, dress how you want and be confident. If you’re not confident, you’re wearing the wrong outfit.

Who or what inspires you?

I find myself to be easily and often inspired. I can be inspired by conversations with co-workers or family, or by a book I’m reading or movie I just watched. I am most inspired by people who hone their craft. When someone loves doing something enough that they’ve dedicated years and/or their life to it, I find that to be extremely inspiring, and I strive to love something that much.

What’s one thing you love about your state or territory?

One thing you’ll always hear about Utah is that we have beautiful outdoors: snow, hiking, mountains, etc. But what comes to my mind first is the people. Utah has some of the nicest people in the world. There’s never been a time where I’ve seen someone need help with pushing their car that has died on the road, where a handful of other people didn’t hop out and help, too. I think Utah is a state full of people who enjoy helping others when they can.

What are you currently reading/listening to/watching?

I’ve been watching “Shrinking” on Apple TV. It’s a fantastic show all about grief and everyday mishaps and inconveniences. But it’s balanced with humor and sincerity. It’s definitely one I would recommend!
