Explanation of the Categories
To assist with report categorization, below is the list of topic categories with a brief listing of examples of topics falling under each category. If the topic of the report does not fit into any of the subject matter categories, it can be listed under “Miscellaneous.” For example, a report on the State Board of Certified Public Accountants would be appropriately listed under “Consumer Protection and Professional Licensure,” and “Financial Services, Business and Commerce.” A report on the effectiveness of pre-school programs for low income children would be appropriately listed under “Education pre K-12” and “Human Services.”
- Agriculture and Rural Development: rural communities; food safety; farming.
- Civil, Criminal Justice and Judiciary: corrections and sentencing; DNA and forensics; juvenile justice; pretrial release; courts; intervention programs including prison industries.
- Community and Economic Development: tax incentives for businesses; redevelopment funding.
- Consumer Protection and Professional Licensure: professional licensing boards; consumer advocates.
- Education pre K-12: college and career readiness; early learning; higher education; international education, charter school and school choice; school finance; school principals; standards and assessment; teachers; and technology and personalized learning.
- Elections, Campaigns and Redistricting: election administration; campaign finance; initiative and referendum; voter registration; and redistricting efforts in the state.
- Emergency Preparedness and Public Safety: state troopers; firefighters; police; EMTs; disaster planning and operations.
- Energy: climate and energy; energy efficiency; energy infrastructure and reliability; fossil fuels; nuclear energy; renewable energy; resources, e.g., oil and gas; utilities.

- Public Employee Retirement Systems: reports on funding status, sustainability, investment strategies.
- Public Health: opioids; prevention of disease or injury; community approach to health issues.
- State-Tribal Issues: indigenous people; indigenous people’s land.
- Telecommunications: regulation; locating cell towers.
- Transportation: vehicles; access and mobility; bicycles and pedestrians; drivers licensing and registration; drunken/impaired driving; funding and finance of transportation projects; traffic safety; hazmat transportation; inter and intra city transit; rail; ports; airports.
Instructions for Using the Report Library
Currently, the report library shows audit reports for 2018, 2019 and 2020 (if any). The reports are divided by year. Within each year's listing, reports are organized by state. Each report citation includes the report's title, release date, publication number (if used) and audit office. To access a full report, go to the agency's website, a link to which is provided at the end of each report citation.
