Job Overview

Responsibilities

  • In the Source Water Protection Program Manager role, you'll be the principal expert in source water protection planning within the Office of Drinking Water.
  • As a leader in the Source Water Protection Program, you'll shape statewide policies and provide visionary leadership.
  • The program actively engages with local communities, offering crucial support for wellhead and watershed protection, evaluating Critical Aquifer Recharge Areas (CARAs), and championing initiatives to protect community water supplies.

Qualifications

Option 1:

  • Eight (8) or more years of professional experience in public health or environmental protection, technical analysis, or planning;
  • Experience MUST INCLUDE at least two (2) or more years of professional experience in three or more of the following areas:
    • Environmental quality protection or compliance
    • Source water protection of drinking water sources
    • Surface water pollution prevention, mitigation, OR cleanup
    • Groundwater pollution prevention, mitigation, OR cleanup
    • Watershed management
    • Coordination or oversight of water issues or regulations
    • Land use planning

Option 2:

  • An Associate’s degree in environmental science, hydrogeology, geology, public health, planning, communications, or closely allied field; AND
  • Six (6) or more years of professional experience in three or more of the following areas:
    • Environmental quality protection or compliance
    • Source water protection of drinking water sources
    • Surface water pollution prevention, mitigation, OR cleanup
    • Groundwater pollution prevention, mitigation, OR cleanup
    • Watershed management
    • Coordination or oversight of water issues or regulations
    • Land use planning

Option 3:

  • A Bachelor’s degree or higher in environmental science, hydrogeology, hydrology, geology, public health, planning, communications, or closely allied field; AND
  • At least five (5) years of professional experience in three or more of the following areas:
    • Environmental quality protection or compliance
    • Source water protection of drinking water sources
    • Surface water pollution prevention, mitigation, OR cleanup
    • Groundwater pollution prevention, mitigation, OR cleanup
    • Watershed management
    • Coordination or oversight of water issues or regulations
    • Land use planning

ALL options will include:

  • Two (2) or more years of experience in program management and data analysis activities.

Work Environment

The duty station for this full-time permanent Environmental Planner 5 (EP5) is in Tumwater, WA. The incumbent may be located anywhere within the State of Washington. A combination of 10% fieldwork and 90% telework is currently expected.
