Job Overview

The Congress of the Federated States of Micronesia is seeking a staff attorney to work in the Office of the Legislative Counsel. A background or interest in Health and Social Affairs and Education is desirable. The Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) is an island nation located in the Western Pacific Ocean, just north of the equator. The capital is located on the island of Pohnpei. Responsibilities

The responsibilities of a staff attorney include drafting legislation, legal research, providing legal advice to Members of Congress, and working with the Executive Branch of the FSM National Government on legislative matters. The work is diverse, ranging from budget legislation to oversight matters and substantive national policy on a wide range of issues.

Qualifications

Qualified candidates must have a J.D. from an accredited law school and be licensed to practice law in any jurisdiction. Excellent English language skills are essential. Benefits

Compensation includes a base salary between $61,235 and $68,138 based on experience, plus housing allowance and relocation expenses. The successful candidate will be expected to sign a two-year contract and must have the ability to adapt to living and working in both an unfamiliar cultural and social environment.
