Rise in Congenital Syphilis Cases Concerns State Legislators

Researchers are warning of a steep rise in syphilis, especially among pregnant women and their infants. Congenital syphilis, if untreated, can cause miscarriage, stillbirth, early infant death, and lifelong physical and neurological complications. Congenital syphilis is preventable and states have options to increase screening and connect pregnant women to care.
