The meeting offers a forum for discussion among Native American legislators.  Members and participants from the private and public sector discuss issues and strategies to address them. NCNASL also uses this opportunity to learn about policies effecting Indian country, at the state, federal and tribal level and takes action on policy.

Annual Meeting discussions and policy resolutions offer NCNASL the opportunity to increase access and economic development, and improve health and education outcomes for American Indian, Alaska Native and Native Hawaiian communities on a national level.

The 2022 annual meeting will be held in at the Park MGM in Las Vegas, Nov. 29-Dec. 1. For the first time, NCNASL will hold a concurrent annual meeting with the other three national caucuses of color. Two joint events bewtween all four caucuses are planned during the annual meeting.

Tentative Meeting Agenda

Members continue to encourage a broad awareness of state-tribal issues across the country and raise the profile of tribal issues throughout state legislatures. The caucus has representatives from across the nation, including states with highest populations of Native Americans.  This helps to address tribal issues and develop public policies in cooperation with states and tribal governments. NCNASL’s Energy, Natural Resources and Transportation, Economic Development and Telecommunications, Education and Health and Human Services policy committees will hold informative sessions during the meeting. Caucus leadership, including chairs and vice-chairs of the policy committees shape the agenda for each session. Members attend all sessions provided by the policy committees. A portion of the meeting is also dedicated to Caucus business, where the caucus addresses and take action on policy resolutions. The policy resolutions are typically in relation, but not limited to, the topics addressed during the policy committee sessions at the annual meeting.
