What to Know Before You Go

The NCSL Events app is your guide to the 2024 Legislative Summit. Simply download it from the App Store or Google Play to see sessions, speakers and events, create your schedule, view session resources, explore the Exhibit Hall map and stay up to date with important notifications.

Visit the self-serve kiosks in the registration area to print your Summit badge. It's easy: Just type in your last name. Badges are required to enter sessions, the Exhibit Hall and all social events.  

Registration is located on the second level of the Kentucky International Convention Center. Hours are: 

  • Sunday, Aug. 4 | Noon-6 p.m. 
  • Monday, Aug. 5 | 7 a.m.-5:30 p.m. 
  • Tuesday, Aug. 6 | 7:30 a.m.-5 p.m. 
  • Wednesday, Aug. 7 | 7:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

Is this your first Legislative Summit, or has it been a while since you’ve attended? Join the attendee orientation on Sunday, Aug. 4, from 4:30-6 p.m. in Ballroom DE to learn how to make the most of the meeting and hear all about NCSL.  

Bonus: Receive a warm welcome to Louisville from Marianne Eaves, Kentucky’s first female master distiller since Prohibition. Eaves will discuss her journey as an entrepreneur, the important role of bourbon in Kentucky’s history and lead participants in a tasting. Stay after the presentation to network with colleagues at a light reception! 

Opening Reception at the Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts | Monday, 5:30-7 p.m. 

Meet and mingle with your colleagues at the Summit’s opening reception. Enjoy views of the Ohio River, great food and live music in the heart of Louisville’s Museum Row. The Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts is within walking distance of the convention center. 

Closing Reception at Churchill Downs | Wednesday, 6:30-9 p.m. 

Dress for the Derby or come as you are for a night at the country’s most famous horse racing track. Tour the brand-new paddock and connect with your colleagues while enjoying delicious Southern cuisine.  

Transportation to Churchill Downs 

Two continuous bus routes to Churchill Downs will run from 6-9:15 p.m. Signage and staff will be available for guidance.  

Bus 1 Pickup Location: 

  • Louisville Marriott Downtown, Second Street side entrance. 
  • Best for those staying at the Louisville Marriott Downtown, Embassy Suites, Seelbach, Hyatt or Omni hotels. 

Bus 2 Pickup Location: 

  • Galt House Hotel & Suites, Main and Fourth streets, northwest corner. 
  • Best for those staying at the Galt House Hotel & Suites.

Hotels are within walking distance of the Kentucky International Convention Center, so be sure to track your steps to help you get a leg up in the annual NCSL Walking Challenge!

To join, download the Heka Well app from the Apple App Store or Google Play and search for “NCSL Walking Challenge.” You'll also find a link to the challenge in the NCSL Events app.

When the competition kicks off at midnight on Monday, Aug. 5, start entering your steps from your phone or tracker daily and have fun competing with your colleagues for prizes.

The step-off concludes Aug. 7 at 1 p.m., and winners will be announced during the 3 p.m. closing general session. You must be present to win. Limit of one prize per person.

Use the hashtag #NCSLsummit to share your key takeaways with colleagues on social media. And don’t forget to use the social media toolkit for sample posts and graphics to share on all your networks. 

Business casual is the norm for the Legislative Summit. It may be hot outside, but the air conditioning in the convention center can get chilly for some. Layering pieces are recommended.

The 2024 NCSL Legislative Summit is at the Kentucky International Convention Center, 221 S. Fourth St., Louisville, Ky. 

The convention center manages two parking garages: Commonwealth Garage, 320 W. Jefferson St., and Cowger Garage, 315 W. Market St.
