Norm Davis

Hometown: Flint, Mich.

Role: Senate Painter, Michigan Legislature

Years of legislative service: 30

One thing he loves about his state: “So many things: Michigan’s tremendous people, nature, beaches, wildlife.”

Why did you choose to work at the Legislature?

I previously worked for Department of Management and Budget and thought working for the Senate would be a great opportunity to advance.

What skill or talent are you most proud of?

Ability to paint and to improve spaces and furniture.

What’s the best advice you were ever given?

My parents taught me to never stop learning.

Who or what inspires you?

God and other people.

What are you currently reading/listening to/watching?

My wife and I are listening to “My Grandfather’s Blessings: Stories of Strength, Refuge and Belonging,” by Dr. Rachel Naomi Remen, a book series about a woman who was raised as a Mennonite and is now an inn keeper.

This interview has been edited for length and clarity.

For its “Staff Snapshots” series, State Legislatures News is asking legislative staff about their role in the legislature. If you’d like to suggest a staffer for this series, please email Holly South at NCSL.
