The NCSL Blog

By Christi Zamarripa

An accurate census count will determine billions of dollars of federal funding and the number of congressional seats for each state—but how can legislators ensure that community members are aware of and participate in the 2020 census?

Effective outreach is essential to a complete count, and the U.S. Census Bureau has developed a series of public service announcements designed to inform the public about the importance of the event.

These ready-to-use PSAs can be shared on social media or in your newsletters to constituents. The PSAs are available in multiple languages and cover various aspects of the census, including how to take the census and census data safety. To see the full array of offerings, browse the PSA Toolkit on and explore the Census Bureau’s outreach materials.

Please contact me if you have any questions about the census.
