Ballot boxIn case you hadn’t heard, it’s an election year. We can assure you there is a lot more going on this election season than building walls and deleting emails.

Come spend time with the NCSL Elections team at Legislative Summit in Chicago, Aug. 8-11, as we explore all things elections. More than a dozen sessions take an in-depth look into redistricting, elections technology, campaign finance, and other hot topics in election administration.

The action starts on Monday morning with a field trip to the Cook County Clerk’s office—one of the largest and best-run elections operations in the country—and ends with a Thursday morning rundown on what to expect in November in terms of legislative races, party control of legislatures and statewide ballot measures.

If the mechanics of democracy pique your interest, join us for an open forum breakfast on Wednesday where we will launch a project relating to primary systems, alternatives to winner-take-all voting and redistricting commissions with the Laura and John Arnold Foundation.

Here are some of the other sessions to check out:

  • Redistricting: A Distinctively Legislative Power | Monday, 1 p.m.
  • Then and Now: How Elections Have Changed Since 2012 | Tuesday, 11:30 a.m.
  • Three Top Topics: Caucuses v. Primaries, Post Office, and Voter Turnout | Tuesday, 1:45 p.m.
  • Technology: Improving Elections One Bit or Byte at a Time? | Tuesday, 3:15 p.m.

It is not too late to register for NCSL’s Legislative Summit, and we encourage you to enhance your experience by dropping in for as many elections sessions as you can.

For more information about redistricting and elections visit NCSL’s webpage and subscribe to our monthly elections newsletter, The Canvass.
