New Legislators, CONGRATULATIONS! You’ve spent months campaigning, meeting voters, participating in debates and earning your seat in the legislature. Now the real work begins.

After every election NCSL hosts a new member webinar series that provides information for new legislators on how to traverse the busy world of legislating. These webinars are intended to assist new legislators on how to be effective in their new role as a public servant and make them aware of the resources available from NCSL.

This year, in coordination with NCSL’s Young and New Professionals, we are hosting an innovative webinar that will integrate a previously filmed “talk-show”-style video with a live question and answer session.

NCSL ethics expert and former Colorado legislator Peggy Kerns will moderate a lively and informative discussion with veteran legislators Representative Dan Flynn of Texas, Speaker Pro Temp Walt Leger of Louisiana, Senator Deb Peters of South Dakota and Representative Sharon Santos of Washington.

We are excited to share these wise legislators’ experiences, helpful tips and anecdotes to aide new legislators as they prepare for the 2015 session. Tune in Friday, Jan. 16, at 1 p.m. ET, Noon CT, 11 a.m. MT and 10 a.m. PT.

Additionally, we encourage you to check out recordings from the other webinars in the New Member Webinar Series: “From Campaign to the Capitol” and “Wise Women: Sage Advice for New Female Legislators”.
