Legislative sessions for 2015 are underway!

All the 50 state legislatures and six U.S. possessions and territories will meet this year. Eighteen legislatures convened last week and 29 will convene this week or by the end of January.

This includes the six legislatures in U.S. possessions and territories. Nevada, Oklahoma and Oregon will start their sessions on Feb. 2. Alabama and Florida will convene in early March and Louisiana will be the final legislature to convene on April 13.

In addition to meeting in regular session, the Tennessee General Assembly will meet in a special session on Feb. 2 to consider Governor Bill Haslam’s Medicaid expansion plan. Haslam called the legislature into a special session. Tennessee is one of 34 states where a special session may be called by the governor or the legislature.

Soon enough legislatures will start adjourning. The Virginia legislature is set to adjourn Feb. 28 and Wyoming will adjourn in early March. Check out the 2015 session calendar for the most up-to-date information on legislatures convening, adjourning and meeting in special sessions.
