A lot has changed for children in the U.S. since the 90’s.

In fact, kids have experienced significant improvements in their lives over the last 20 years, according to the 2014 KIDS COUNT Databook.

Did you know?

  • The number of 3- and 4-year olds going to pre-school increased from 38 to 51 percent between 1990 and 2012.
  • The number of uninsured children has decreased from 13 to 9 percent between 1990 and 2012.

However, there is still more work to do. One in eight children live in communities where poverty is pervasive while parents struggle to find steady work.

Hear more about the report’s findings on child well-being at our luncheon session, "How Are the Kids Doing in Your State?"  at the NCSL Legislative Summit, at 12:30 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 20. For this and other children and family related sessions, click here.
