In late 2017, Hollywood, newscasters, Silicon Valley entrepreneurs, and many other industries faced a reckoning for years of inappropriate behavior, culminating in the #metoo and #timesup movements.

State legislatures were no exception to this movement, and legislatures around the country are reviewing their solutions to reducing sexual harassment in their workplace. NCSL has compiled several resources that address sexual harassment policies and training in the legislature.

​​Veto Override Thresholds​

Every state and territory’s constitution or organic act empowers the governor to veto a bill passed by the legislature, preventing the bill from becoming a law. The legislature can attempt to override the veto, which requires both chambers to vote with thresholds of 1/2, 3/5 or 2/3 of members, depending on the state.
