Employment & Income
- Forty-two percent of leavers reported that they were better off financially than when receiving welfare.
- Seventeen percent reported that their financial situation had remained the same and 37% said that it was worse after leaving welfare.
Other Supports
- 27% of former recipients received help from family or friends.
- 9% of former recipients received help from a partner or spouse.
- Only 3% of former recipients received child support or alimony.
Family Well-Being
- Former welfare recipients continued to suffer many hardships after exit. 35% of leavers reported having overdue bills, 19% said they did not have enough food, 14% had their utilities turned off, and 6% had been evicted since case closing.
- Two percent of leavers reported that they were not getting by at all (homeless, etc.).
