Communications to Congress and the Administration

  • Letter sent from the nation's state and local leaders Congress urging them to include a substantially increased transportation budget level in FY2004 Budget Resolution (March 11, 2003).
  • Letter sent to Office and Management and Budget expressing concerns about the amount expressed to Congress to serve as the level appropriated for federal highway funding in a continuing resolution (October 10, 2002).
  • Letter sent from the State and Local Government Energy Coalition expressing concerns with a House offer to H.R. 4 establishing new federal authority for the siting of electric transmission lines (September 24, 2002).
  • Letter sent to Senator Murray supporting the Senate transportation appropriations bill (S. 2808) which allocates $31.8 billion to federal-aid highway funds for states (August 28, 2002).
  • Letter sent from state and local stakeholders expressing concern regarding the transmission siting provision found in section 402 of H.R. 3406, The Securing America's Future Energy Act (July 18, 2002).
  • Letter sent to Secretary Mineta and chairman and ranking member of both the Senate and House Appropriations Committee urging them to approve Amtrak's request for a $200 million loan guarantee to keep the nation's passenger rail system running (June 26, 2002).
  • NCSL and CSG issued a joint report defining issues states could address to improve driver's license integrity. The report was shared with the White House Office of Homeland Security (OHS) (June 25, 2002).
  • Letter sent to the House Committee on the Judiciary urging them to oppose H.R. 4043, which would compel states to match state driver's license expiration dates with non-citizen visa expiration dates (May 31, 2002).
  • Letter sent to the chairwoman and ranking member of the Senate Transportation Appropriations Subcommittee asking them to support Amtrak's request for $1.2 billion for FY2003 (May 7, 2002).
  • Letter sent to the Senate expressing support of the provision in the Senate Budget Resolution that provides $1.2 billion in federal Amtrak funding in FY2003 (April 4, 2002).
  • Letter sent to the Senate Budget Committee Chairman to express appreciation for the provisions in the Senate Budget Resolution that provide FY2003 funding for highway and highway safety programs at levels above the amount guaranteed by TEA-21 (March 28, 2002).
  • Letter sent to Secretary Mineta thanking him for meeting with NCSL President Senator Stephen Saland and Immediate Past President Senator Jim Costa to discuss NCSL's concerns with FY2003 highway funding (March 26, 2002).
